2010 SEC Football Preview: Vanderbilt Commodores

By Dan Harralson

I can spend time analyzing the 2010 Vandy football season, but it would be more special to honor and review Bobby Johnson's tenure in Nashville. Coach Johnson made Vanderbilt a week in and week out tough game. The Commodores may have not won every week, but they were in most games. Look at the body of work Coach Johnson constructed against the SEC. Here are his records against these institutions: Alabama, 0-3; Arkansas, 1-1; Auburn, 1-3; Florida, 0-8; Georgia, 1-7; Kentucky, 2-6; LSU, 0-3; Ole Miss, 3-5; Mississippi State, 1-3; South Carolina, 2-6; Tennessee, 1-7. On top of his success within the conference, Johnson landed Vanderbilt's first bowl victory in 53 years. He now hands the reigns over to his long time assistant, Robbie Caldwell. There is no question Larry Smith is the key to the offensive and to a brutal SEC schedule. Look for Vanderbilt to record at least one win, maybe two (preferably Eastern Michigan.)
